Kiev is rich in monuments of art and culture. The most important ones are: Golden Gate , St. Sophia Cathedral (XI century), Vydubychi Monastery (XI century.), complex structures of the Kiev -Pechersk Lavra (XI-XVIII cc.), St. Michael Cathedral, Florovsky monastery (the beginning of the XVI century), St. Andrew, Pokrovsky, Trinity Church, painted by Viktor Vasnetsov, Mikhail Nesterov and others, Volodymyr's Cathedral (XIX cent.) restored / painted by Mikhail Vrubel, Cyril Church (XII century), Klovsky and the Mariinsky Palace.

Forests, parks and gardens make up more than half of Kiev 's area. There are two botanical gardens within the city.

Kiev is rightly called one of the greenest cities in the world (as it once was considered the most green). Famous Kyiv chestnut trees, which bloom in May, luxurious, and sometimes twice a year: spring and autumn, has become one of the symbols of the city.
